Axel Rudi Pell (nascido em 27 de junho de 1960) é um guitarrista alemão de hard rock. Anteriormente era da banda de speed metal Steeler, ele seguiu uma carreira solo desde o final dos anos 1980 e início dos anos 1990 com a banda homônima Axel Rudi Pell, trabalhando com vários vocalistas, o mais antigo é Johnny Gioeli do Hardline, está na banda desde 1998.
Pell começou sua carreira musical com o Steeler em 1984 e saiu em 1988 para seguir carreira solo. Durante esse tempo, ele trabalhou com bateristas como Jörg Michael e Mike Terrana e cantores incluindo Charlie Huhn, Johnny Gioeli do Hardline, Jeff Scott Soto e Rob Rock. Gioeli continua sendo o vocalista que está há mais tempo na banda, tendo entrado em 1998 para o álbum Oceans Of Time, sua primeira aparição musical desde o álbum Double Eclipse do Hardline de 1992.
Pell costuma afirmar que sua música gira em torno de um cavaleiro de armadura brilhante embarcando em diversas aventuras. Cada álbum da continuidade a uma nova jornada, com as canções contadas como histórias independentes. Sua principal influência na guitarra é Ritchie Blackmore do Deep Purple.
A SPV Records lançou um DVD ao vivo em 25 de fevereiro de 2008, intitulado Live Over Europe, que apresenta a performance completa do Rock Hard Festival em 2007 e inclui um disco bônus com imagens ao vivo do arquivo pessoal de Pell. Em 2012, o CD/DVD do show ao vivo Live On Fire foi lançado.
Em 2013, o ex -baterista do Rainbow, Bobby Rondinelli, se juntou a banda, substituindo Mike Terrana após sua saída. Terrana optou por seguir outros projetos, incluindo a participação no supergrupo The Ferrymen, com o vocalista do Rainbow, Ronnie Romero. Pell celebrou seu 25º aniversário como artista solo em 2014, sendo a atração principal do festival Bang Your Head em Balingen, Alemanha em 11 de julho de 2014. O evento contou com os vocalistas, Rob Rock e Jeff Scott Soto, além dos convidados especiais Joerg Michael, Ronnie Atkins, John Lawton, o baterista Vinny Appice e os ex-membros do Rainbow Graham Bonnett, Doogie White e o tecladista Tony Carey. O show consistiu em três atos, uma breve reunião do Steelers e um pequeno set do Axel Rudi Pell com os vocalistas Rob Rock e Jeff Scott Soto, uma apresentação completa e moderna do Axel Rudi Pell com o vocalista Johnny Gioeli e os membros atuais da banda e um ato final com vários covers de Deep Purple e Rainbow com uma banda completa.
Em 2019, a banda celebrou seu 30º aniversário com o lançamento de um álbum duplo ao vivo, XXX - 30th Anniversary Live. As músicas foram gravadas em diversas datas durante a turnê Knights Call 2018. De acordo com a página do grupo no Facebook, a banda não sabia que estava sendo gravada, mas depois de ouvir o áudio ficaram impressionados e decidiram lançá-lo para comemorar o aniversário. O álbum foi lançado em junho de 2019 em CD e LP.
Em 5 de fevereiro de 2020, a banda anunciou no Facebook que seu próximo álbum, Sign Of The Times, seria lançado em 24 de abril de 2020. Em março de 2020, devido a pandemia de COVID-19, a data de lançamento foi adiada para 8 de maio de 2020. Uma turnê de divulgação foi adiada para 2021 e posteriormente adiada novamente para 2022. No final de 2020, Pell anunciou outro álbum de covers, Diamonds Unlocked II, lançado em 30 de julho de 2021, com estilo semelhante ao de Diamonds Unlocked de 2007. Pell é conhecido por suas extensas turnês, principalmente na Alemanha e em sua cidade natal, Bochum. Embora raramente faça turnês internacionais, ele realizou shows pontuais em Londres nos últimos anos. Há uma grande demanda por apresentações em outros países. A banda também é presença constante em festivais de música, principalmente no Wacken Open Air, onde se apresenta desde o final da década de 1990.
