Demon é uma banda inglesa de hard rock e heavy metal com elementos de rock progressivo, formada em 1979 pelo vocalista Dave Hill e pelo guitarrista Mal Spooner, ambos originários de Leek, Staffordshire. O grupo é considerado uma das referências do movimento da nova onda do heavy metal britânico (NWOBHM).
A formação original foi completada pelos ex-integrantes do Hunter: Les Hunt (guitarra solo), Chris Ellis (baixo) e John Wright (bateria). A banda assinou contrato com a Clay Records, de Mike Stone, em 1980, e teve seus direitos licenciados para a Carrere Records para integrar o catálogo de bandas de metal da gravadora. Seu álbum de estreia, Night of the Demon, foi lançado em 1981.
Após o lançamento do álbum seguinte, The Unexpected Guest (1982), a banda foi além da sonoridade tradicional da NWOBHM e seguiu em direção a um som mais melódico, mantendo, no entanto, a temática lírica voltada à magia negra típica do heavy metal da época.
Em 1983, o Demon mudou novamente de rumo. The Plague marcou uma guinada em direção a um som progressivo, incorporando os teclados do músico de sessão Andy Richards. Nas letras, a banda também adotou uma postura abertamente política, característica que marcaria seus álbuns pelo resto da carreira.
O trabalho seguinte, British Standard Approved (1985), de forte influência pinkfloydiana e lançado pelo selo independente Clay, não obteve grande sucesso comercial. Com a morte de Mal Spooner no final daquele ano, parecia que a banda encerraria as atividades. No entanto, o grupo já havia recrutado um tecladista e coautor permanente, Steven Watts.
O álbum seguinte, Heart of Our Time (1985), demonstrou a determinação dos integrantes restantes em continuar e marcou o início da nova parceria de composição entre Hill e Watts. Embora seja considerado por alguns como o trabalho mais fraco da discografia, ele abriu caminho para o aclamado Breakout (1987) e para o sucessor Taking the World by Storm (1989). O Demon ainda lançou mais dois álbuns na década de 1990: Hold On to the Dream (1991) e Blow Out (1992), antes de anunciar uma pausa em 1992 devido ao desgaste, segundo o vocalista e membro fundador Dave Hill.
Hill reuniu a banda com uma nova formação em 2001 e lançou o álbum Spaced Out Monkey. Desde então, o grupo apresentou outros três trabalhos de estúdio: Better the Devil You Know (2005), Unbroken (2012) e Cemetery Junction (2016).
Todos os lançamentos do período pós-reunião receberam críticas positivas da imprensa especializada, o que levou o grupo a se apresentar em vários festivais europeus — incluindo o Bang Your Head!!! e o Sweden Rock Festival —, embora realize turnês completas com pouca frequência. A banda excursionou com o vocalista Bob Catley (do Magnum) em 2005 e, em 2018, celebrou o 35º aniversário de The Unexpected Guest com uma turnê pelo Reino Unido, executando o álbum na íntegra ao lado de outros clássicos.
Em 26 de março de 2024, a banda anunciou o álbum Invincible, lançado em 17 de maio daquele ano e agraciado com novas avaliações favoráveis.
