Mr. Big foi uma banda de hard rock norte-americana, formada em 1988 tendo como alguns dos sucessos "Addicted To That Rush", "To Be With You", "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind", "Shine" e "Wild World".
A banda Mr. Big começou em 1988 como um quarteto integrando Paul Gilbert (guitarra), Billy Sheehan (baixo), Eric Martin (vocal) e Pat Torpey (bateria). Todos os membros eram considerados, principalmente por colegas músicos e críticos, extremamente habilidosos e com um talento acima da média em seus respectivos instrumentos. Também experientes, Martin cantava desde os 10 anos e, mais tarde, fora líder da Eric Martin Band; Gilbert tocava desde os 9 e havia sido guitarrista da banda Racer X; Sheehan liderara o Talas, tocara na UFO e na banda solo do vocalista David Lee Roth; já Pat tocara com Robert Plant, John Parr e Belinda Carlisle.
O resultado desta união veio logo no primeiro ano, com o lançamento do álbum Mr.Big, pela Atlantic Records. O sucesso chegou cedo com as canções “Big Love” e “Addicted to That Rush”.
No ano seguinte, o grupo saiu em turnê e na volta, já começou a preparar o novo álbum, Lean Into It. As canções “Lucky This Time”, “Green-Tinted Sixties Mind” e “To Be With You” geraram grande repercussão e sucesso junto ao público. Esta última chegara, inclusive, ao topo das paradas em 1991. Dois anos depois chegava às lojas o terceiro disco, “Bump Ahead”. A turnê foi mundial e incluiu o Brasil, onde a banda tocou para 100 mil pessoas no festival M2000 Summer Concerts, junto com as bandas Rollins Band e os brasileiros do Dr. Sin e Raimundos. Este show foi considerado por Paul Gilbert como o mais importante de sua carreira.
No Brasil, a banda teve duas canções presentes em trilhas sonoras. A primeira foi "Just Take My Heart" que foi incluída na trilha sonora internacional da novela da Rede Globo, "Despedida de Solteiro", em 1992. A outra canção foi "Wild World", que esteve incluída em duas trilhas sonoras internacionais, "Sonho Meu" de 1993, exibida pela Rede Globo e "Confissões de Adolescente" de 1994, exibido pela TV Cultura de São Paulo.
Em 7 de fevereiro de 2018, o baterista Pat Torpey morreu de complicações da doença de Parkinson aos 64 anos. Seu último show aconteceu no Wulfrun Hall em Wolverhampton em 23 de novembro de 2017. Um show memorial aconteceu em 23 de maio de 2018, no The Canyon em Agoura Hills, Califórnia, com o ex-membro Richie Kotzen como convidado especial. O final all-star de " To Be With You " incluiu, entre outros, Matt Sorum, Dave Amato, Ricky Phillips, Keith St John, Prescott Niles, Kelly Keagy, Jeff Scott Soto, Ace Von Johnson e Gregg Bissonette .
Em outubro de 2018, Eric Martin disse em entrevista ao Friday NI Rocks que a banda estava planejando seu próximo e último álbum. De acordo com Martin, assim que a banda terminasse seus compromissos, eles se separariam: "Sim, esse é o último suspiro – é isso. É um pouco desconfortável continuar sem Pat Torpey." No entanto, isso nunca se materializou e a banda entrou em um estado de hibernação, com os membros se dedicando a outros projetos. Em janeiro de 2021, Billy Sheehan disse que a banda ainda estava junta, "[...] mas, como vocês sabem, infelizmente perdemos nosso baterista e não temos nenhum plano neste momento para nada. Vamos apenas deixar a natureza seguir seu curso. Em algum momento, talvez façamos algo de novo. Não sabemos. Talvez eu e Paul, talvez eu e Eric, talvez Eric e Paul, talvez nós com um baterista diferente - pode ser qualquer coisa - mas não discutimos isso de forma alguma e estamos apenas deixando para lá." Ele também expressou insatisfação com Defying Gravity, alegando que havia "um problema de masterização [...que] tornou o LP inaudível". Ele continuou dizendo que "a gravadora arruinou o disco" ao insistir em ter o álbum e "lançá-lo quando ainda não estava pronto. Se tivéssemos mais um dia para masterizá-lo e fazer tudo certo, teria sido ótimo. Porque eu estava lá para as mixagens finais — eu ia lá todos os dias e ouvia as mixagens. Pat também estava lá conosco. Revisamos as mixagens e elas estavam soando ótimas. E, infelizmente, fomos prejudicados."
Em agosto de 2022, Sheehan revelou que a banda estava "considerando fortemente" fazer shows em 2023, com Matt Starr retornando como baterista da banda. No entanto, em uma entrevista posterior, ele anunciou que a banda decidiu não continuar com Starr como baterista devido ao seu "alcance vocal" ser diferente do de Torpey. Sheehan então afirmou que a banda tem um novo baterista cuja identidade será revelada em breve. Quando questionado em novembro de 2022 se as alegações de Sheehan de que o Mr. Big estava se reunindo para fazer uma turnê e possivelmente gravar novo material em 2023 eram verdadeiras, Martin disse: "Não estou cem por cento na parte da gravação, mas, sim, vamos fazer isso. Definitivamente vamos fazer uma turnê."
Em março de 2023, foi anunciado que Nick D'Virgilio se juntaria ao Mr. Big como baterista da turnê "The Big Finish Tour" de 2023-24.
Apesar de ter anunciado uma turnê de despedida, Martin confirmou em novembro de 2023 que a banda ainda estava trabalhando em novo material para seu décimo álbum de estúdio. Este álbum resultante, Ten, foi lançado em 12 de julho de 2024.
Em 23 de agosto de 2024, o Mr. Big fez seu último show da Big Finish Farewell Tour no Way Too Far Rock Festival na Romênia.
Em 11 de fevereiro de 2025, a banda anunciou quatro shows finais que aconteceriam na Índia e no Japão no final daquele mês, com o último show ocorrendo em 25 de fevereiro em Tóquio. Fonte: Wikipédia. Site Oficial.
