Nucleus foi uma banda britânica de jazz rock, que teve diferentes formações entre 1969 e 1989. Em 1970, a banda ganhou o primeiro prêmio no Festival de Jazz de Montreux, lançou o álbum Elastic Rock e se apresentou no Festival de Jazz de Newport e no clube de jazz Village Gate.
A banda foi fundada por Ian Carr, que havia feito parte do Quinteto Rendell-Carr em meados e no final da década de 1960. O álbum de estreia do Nucleus, Elastic Rock de 1970, e as duas coletâneas seguintes, We'll Talk About It Later e Solar Plexus, foram todos lançados pela Vertigo Records e o jornalista musical Colin Larkin observou que eram "vitais em qualquer coleção abrangente de rock ou jazz".
Em agosto de 2005, uma reencarnação do Nucleus, com membros antigos e novos, se apresentou no Cargo, em Londres. Isso foi seguido, em 30 de março de 2007, por um concerto do Nucleus Revisited no PizzaExpress Jazz Club, também em Londres, como parte de uma série de concertos para comemorar o décimo aniversário da revista Jazzwise. O Nucleus Revisited era composto por Geoff Castle, Mark Wood e Tim Whitehead no trompete. Embora Ian Carr não tenha tocado devido a problemas de saúde, ele estava presente no concerto e recebeu uma ovação de pé. Em 4 de agosto de 2009, o Nucleus Revisited se apresentou no Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, em Londres, com o Quarteto de Michael Garrick, como parte do Brit Jazz Fest, um festival de duas semanas.
