Robin Leonard Trower (nascido em 9 de março de 1945) é um guitarrista e produtor de rock inglês que alcançou sucesso com o Procol Harum de 1967 a 1971 e como líder de sua própria banda conhecida como Robin Trower Band.
Embora o Procol Harum fosse conhecido principalmente como uma banda de rock progressivo, o próprio Trower é conhecido por sua forma de tocar guitarra com influências de blues, que os críticos frequentemente comparam à de Jimi Hendrix, a quem ele cita como uma influência.
Como artista solo, Trower lançou quatro álbuns consecutivos de 1974 a 1977 que tiveram um bom desempenho nas paradas dos EUA e Canadá, mas na década de 1980 sua carreira despencou. Ele retornou brevemente ao Procol Harum para gravar o álbum de 1991, The Prodigal Stranger , mas saiu novamente para retomar sua carreira solo.
Biografia.
Robin Trower nasceu em Catford, Londres, Inglaterra e cresceu em Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Em 1962 ele formou uma banda que se tornou os Paramounts. Os Paramounts se separaram em 1966 para seguir projetos individuais. Durante esse tempo, Trower criou uma banda local chamada Jam (não confundir com o grupo posterior com Paul Weller). Em junho de 1967, Trower se juntou a nova banda de Brooker, Procol Harum, após o sucesso de seu single de estreia em maio de 1967, " A Whiter Shade of Pale ", e permaneceu com eles até meados de 1971, participando dos cinco primeiros álbuns do grupo. Trower escreveu "Whisky Train", o single principal do quarto álbum do grupo, Home, e escreveu três músicas no álbum subsequente, Broken Barricades. No entanto, como Trower confessou mais tarde, "comecei a perceber que estava a ter muito mais ideias do que o Procol tinha espaço para elas, por isso fui levado a avançar para o meu próprio negócio."
Antes de lançar sua banda homônima, ele se juntou ao cantor Frankie Miller, ao ex- baixista/vocalista do Stone the Crows, James Dewar e ao ex- baterista do Jethro Tull, Clive Bunker, para formar uma breve banda chamada Jude. Essa banda não gravou nenhum álbum e logo se separou.
Trower manteve Dewar como seu baixista (que também assumiu os vocais principais) e recrutou o baterista Reg Isidore (mais tarde substituído por Bill Lordan) para formar a Robin Trower Band em 1973. Em 1974, o grupo lançou Bridge of Sighs. [Este álbum, junto com seu primeiro e terceiro álbum solo, foi produzido por seu ex-companheiro de banda do Procol Haru, o tecladista Matthew Fisher. O trabalho inicial do power trio foi conhecido pelas influências de Jimi Hendrix. Trower é um guitarrista influente que inspirou outras lendas da guitarra, como Robert Fripp, que o elogiou por sua flexão de cordas e pela qualidade de seus sons e também teve aulas com ele.
No início da década de 1980, Trower se juntou ao ex -baixista do Cream, Jack Bruce, e seus bateristas anteriores, Lordan e Isidore, para dois álbuns, BLT (Bruce, Lordan, Trower) e Truce (Trower, Bruce, Isidore). Depois desses álbuns, ele lançou outro álbum com James Dewar nos vocais, intitulado Back It Up em 1983. Robin Trower foi retirado da Chrysalis Records depois disso.
Trower também fez parte da turnê europeia Night of the Guitars II em 1991, organizada por Sting e pelo empresário do The Police, Miles Copeland. A turnê contou com Ronnie Montrose, Rick Derringer, Ian Crichton, do Saga, Dave Sharman, Jan Akkerman e Laurie Wisefield.
Treze álbuns depois, o álbum Living Out of Time (2003) contou com o retorno dos veteranos companheiros de banda Dave Bronze no baixo, o vocalista Davey Pattison (anteriormente da banda Gamma de Ronnie Montrose ) e Pete Thompson na bateria — a mesma formação dos álbuns Passion e Take What You Need de meados dos anos 1980.
Com os mesmos companheiros de banda, Trower fez um show em seu aniversário de 60 anos em Bonn, Alemanha. O show foi gravado pelo canal de televisão alemão WDR. Foi lançado em DVD e posteriormente em CD para toda a Europa e mais tarde nos EUA, sob o título " Living Out of Time: Live". Trower excursionou pelos Estados Unidos e Canadá no verão e outono de 2006.
Em 2007, Trower lançou uma terceira gravação com Jack Bruce, "Seven Moons", com Gary Husband na bateria. Uma turnê mundial em 2008 começou em Ft. Pierce, Flórida, em 16 de janeiro de 2008. Junto com Davey Pattison e Pete Thompson estava Glenn Letsch (ex-Gamma) no baixo. As datas europeias começaram em abril. O show de 29 de março de 2008 no Royal Oak Music Theater em Royal Oak, Michigan, foi lançado como álbum duplo pela V12 Records.
Trower descreveu James Brown como seu "grande herói", particularmente o trabalho inicial de Brown "onde o blues está cruzando com o rock and roll".
Em 2016, ele desfrutou de uma turnê de sucesso pelos EUA. Em 20 de março de 2018, Trower fez um show no Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts em Annapolis, Maryland. Dez minutos depois (aproximadamente 21h00 EDT), após tocar as músicas "Day of The Eagle" e "Bridge of Sighs" consecutivamente ele anunciou em seu microfone que não estava se sentindo bem (ele tinha sintomas de gripe), entregou seu violão para uma equipe de palco, caminhou para os bastidores e desmaiou. Ele foi transportado de ambulância para o hospital.
Em 2019, foi anunciado que Trower havia assinado com a Mascot Label Group, juntamente com o anúncio de um novo álbum de estúdio, Closer To The Day. Sobre o título do álbum, ele disse à Guitar World: "Não estou pensando em morrer — longe disso. O que estou dizendo é: 'Se estou mais perto do fim do que do começo, então tenho que ir.'" O álbum foi lançado em 22 de março de 2019, enquanto sua turnê de apoio foi cancelada como resultado da pandemia de COVID-19.
Em 18 de fevereiro de 2022, Trower o álbum de estúdio, No More Worlds To Conquer. O disco foi lançado em 29 de abril de 2022.
Sari Schorr é a vocalista principal do álbum de Trower, Joyful Sky, lançado pela Provogue Records em outubro de 2023.
Em 6 de junho de 2024, Trower anunciou o cancelamento de sua próxima turnê pelos EUA, programada para setembro/outubro, devido a problemas de saúde não revelados que exigiriam uma grande operação.
Seu álbum solo mais recente, Come And Find Me, que foi lançado em 2025.
Vida pessoal.
Trower se identifica como cristão. Quando questionado sobre suas crenças religiosas em uma entrevista de 2019, Trower respondeu: "Para ser honesto, acho que fui escolhido para ter fé. Desde muito cedo. Tínhamos as Escrituras na escola, e isso simplesmente me tocou. Essa é a única maneira de explicar. Ouvir os Evangelhos tocou algo dentro de mim. [Minha fé] me ajuda a manter o foco e a não começar a vagar por caminhos inúteis." Embora admitisse que "tinha me afastado um pouco da missa ultimamente", Trower reafirmou sua identificação como católico.
Ao descrever sua rotina de autocuidado em uma entrevista de 2022, Trower afirmou que "[durante] os últimos 20 anos ou mais, não bebi álcool, não fumei tabaco, não usei drogas, tive uma dieta sensata, fiz um pouco de exercício e fiz muita oração."
Trower casou-se com sua esposa Andrea em 1968, permanecendo casado até sua morte em 2014.
Trower é um leitor ávido e citou a série Aubrey–Maturin de Patrick O'Brian com temática náutica como uma das suas favoritas, afirmando que "É muito rica em linguagem. Adoro a ideia do mar e tenho um breviário que explica toda a terminologia, por isso posso recorrer a ele."
