Savoy Brown (originalmente Savoy Brown Blues Band) foi uma banda inglesa de blues rock formada em Battersea, sudoeste de Londres, em 1965. Parte do movimento de blues rock do final dos anos 1960, o Savoy Brown alcançou sucesso principalmente nos Estados Unidos, onde promoveu os seus álbuns com digressões ininterruptas. O fundador, guitarrista e compositor principal Kim Simmonds foi o único membro constante da banda desde a sua formação em 1965 até à sua morte em 2022. Foram uma das bandas que a Decca do Reino Unido (Londres dos EUA/Parrot) manteve durante os tempos difíceis até começarem a vender discos; demorou quatro ou cinco álbuns até começarem a vender nos EUA. No final dos anos 1960 e começo dos anos 1970, a banda conseguiu entrar na Billboard Hot 100.
A banda foi formada pelo guitarrista Kim Simmonds e pelo gaitista John O'Leary, após um encontro casual na loja de discos Transat Imports em Lisle Street, Soho, em 1965. Ao nomearem-se, o grupo uniu duas palavras que transmitiam um interessante equilíbrio de sentimentos e abordagens opostas. A palavra "Savoy" surgiu de uma editora americana de blues, a Savoy Records, pois os membros da banda achavam que a palavra "Savoy" soava elegante. Acrescentaram "Brown" porque achavam que era uma palavra extremamente simples. No geral, o grupo auto - intitulou-se Savoy Brown Blues Band para dizer aos ouvintes que tocavam música com a sonoridade Chicago Blues.
A formação original incluía o vocalista Brice Portius, o teclista Trevor Jeavons, o baixista Ray Chappell, o baterista Leo Manning e o gaitista John O'Leary (O'Leary apareceu em gravações iniciais com a banda para a editora Purdah de Mike Vernon). Portius foi um dos primeiros músicos de blues negros a fazer parte de uma banda de rock britânica. Jeavons foi substituído por Bob Hall logo após a formação da banda e a chegada do guitarrista Martin Stone. Pouco tempo depois da chegada de Stone, O'Leary abandonou a banda como consequência de uma disputa com o manager Harry Simmonds. Esta formação, sem O'Leary, apareceu no álbum de estreia da banda em 1967, Shake Down, uma coleção de covers de blues.
Após o lançamento do disco, houve mais mudanças na formação, com a saída dos membros fundadores Portius, Chappell e Manning, juntamente com o guitarrista recém-contratado Stone, num curto período. Chris Youlden e "Lonesome" Dave Peverett viriam a ser o novo vocalista e segundo guitarrista da banda, respetivamente. Inicialmente, Bob Brunning e Hughie Flint (do John Mayall And Bluesbreakers) preencheram as posições de baixista e baterista no single "Taste and Try (Before You Buy)", mas foram posteriormente substituídos por Rivers Jobe e Bill Bruford. Quinze dias após a chegada de Bruford à banda, ele foi substituído por Roger Earl (Bruford alcançou um enorme sucesso mais tarde como baterista dos Yes).
Agora oficialmente conhecida como Savoy Brown, essa formação gravou dois álbuns em 1968, Getting to the Point e Blue Matter, que demonstraram a ascensão de Youlden como compositor ao lado de Simmonds. Foi esta formação que lançou o single "Train to Nowhere" em 1969. " A Step Further" foi lançado no final desse ano e contou com a participação do baixista Tony Stevens no lugar de Jobe. Conquistaram um público fiel nos Estados Unidos, graças a canções como "I'm Tired", uma canção melódica e imponente do álbum.
Após o lançamento de Raw Sienna em 1970, Youlden abandonou a banda. Raw Sienna marcou a primeira vez que a banda gravou álbuns consecutivos sem qualquer alteração na formação. No mesmo ano a banda gravou o seu álbum seguinte, Looking In, como quarteto e após esse álbum Peverett, Stevens e Earl saíram para formar os Foghat com o guitarrista Rod Price.
Isto deixou Simmonds como o único membro restante. Simmonds recrutou Paul Raymond nos teclados e guitarras, Andy Silvester no baixo e Dave Bidwell na bateria, todos ex-membros da banda de blues Chicken Shack e o vocalista Dave Walker. Em 1971, esta formação lançou Street Corner Talking, que incluía as canções "Tell Mama" e "Street Corner Talking". No entanto o estrelato escapou-lhes perpetuamente. Apesar disso, o seu álbum seguinte, Hellbound Train de 1972, foi um álbum Top 40 para eles nos EUA. Em janeiro de 1974, a revista de música britânica NME noticiou que Stan Webb ia se juntar ao Savoy Brown, após a separação do Chicken Shack.
No final da década de 1970, Simmonds organizou a banda com o vocalista Ralph Morman, antigo membro dos Joe Perry Project, o baterista Keith Boyce e o guitarrista Barry Paul, do Heavy Metal Kids e o baixista John Humphrey. Esta formação gravou o álbum Rock 'N' Roll Warriors de 1981, que deu ao Savoy Brown mais sucesso do que o grupo tinha visto desde meados da década de 1970. O single " Run to Me ", um cover de uma canção originalmente gravada pelo Smokie, tornou-se o single de maior sucesso do Savoy nos Estados Unidos, atingindo o número 68 na Billboard Hot 100 na semana de 31 de outubro de 1981. Apesar do sucesso desta formação, Simmonds estava novamente sozinho na primavera de 1982.
O cantor Dave Walker regressou ao grupo no final da década de 1980 e gravou dois álbuns de estúdio e um álbum ao vivo como vocalista principal, mas abandonou o grupo pela segunda vez em 1991. Durante a década de 1990, Simmonds continuou a trabalhar com várias formações da banda, incluindo uma breve passagem pelo futuro vocalista do Molly Hatchet, Phil McCormack.

Em 2015, anunciado como Kim Simmonds e Savoy Brown, o seu álbum, The Devil to Pay , alcançou a quarta posição na tabela Billboard Top Blues dos EUA Albums.
