Wigwam é uma banda finlandesa de rock progressivo formada em 1968, após o final da banda seminal Blues Section cujo baterista Ronnie Österberg havia tocado anteriormente. Ele formou a banda como um trio, mas logo trouxe o britânico expatriado e vocalista Jim Pembroke (também do Blues Section) e o tecladista Jukka Gustavson. Um ano depois Pekka Pohjola entrou na banda como baixista. Kim Fowley produziu o segundo álbum da banda, Tombstone Valentine, lançado em 1970, e que contava com a composição eletrônica de Erkki Kurenniemi 'Dance of the Anthropoids'.
O álbum Being de 1974 é considerado a obra prima do Wigwam. Apesar disso, após seu lançamento Pohjola e Gustavson deixaram o grupo. Os maiores sucessos comerciais da banda foram as obras Fairyport, lançado em 1971 e Nuclear Nightclub, lançado em 1975, com os novos membros Pekka Rechardt na guitarra e Måns Groundstroem no baixo.
Por um tempo durante a década de 1970 a banda pareceu estar prestes a estourar na Europa, assim como bandas contemporâneas como Tasavallan Presidentti, mas apesar do apoio da imprensa do Reino Unido, a fama internacional em grande escala os iludiu, e a banda acabou terminando em 1978. Jim Pembroke e Ronnie Österberg formaram o Jim Pembroke Band no final de 1979, mas com problemas do coração devido à diabetes, Österberg cometeu suicídio em 6 de dezembro de 1980.
O Wigwam foi reformulado nos anos 1990 com Pembroke, Rechardt e Groundstroem. Sua influência na músicafinlandesa é amplamente reconhecida. Os discos nomeados como Jim Pembroke & Wigwam são da carreira solo de Jim Pembroke com a participação da banda.
Na década de 2010, os ex-membros do Wigwam realizaram shows intitulados Wigwam Unplugged ou Wigwam Revisited, com Mikko Rintanen, Jan Noponen, Måns Groundstroem e Jukka Gustavson, com Pekka Nylund na guitarra.
No final de 2018, a banda fez uma pequena turnê de 50º aniversário na Finlândia com a formação de Jukka Gustavson, Jim Pembroke, Pekka Rechardt, Esa Kotilainen e Jan Noponen, com Pave Maijanen no baixo.
O líder da banda, Jim Pembroke, faleceu em outubro de 2021, aos 75 anos. Como outros membros da banda decidiram não se apresentar sob o nome Wigwam sem Pembroke, os concertos de 2018 permaneceram como suas apresentações finais. No entanto, Gustavson, Rechardt, Kotilainen e Noponen com o baixista Janne Brunberg se apresentaram desde então sob o nome Wigwam Experience e Gustavson, Noponen, Mikko Rintanen, Brunberg e o guitarrista Puka Oinonen sob o nome Wigwam Revisited.
